Responsibilities

The role of this position is to protect and maintain a secure environment by providing a visible presence and intervening when necessary to ensure safety of staff, consumers, visitors, and the facility. Security will be alert and aware of surrounding and safety at all times and will not practice seclusion or restraints.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or GED required, the individual must be 18 years of age or older, experience working with individuals with mental illness and security or corrections experience preferred. Security officers will complete all required training within six months of hire.  Must be able to maintain composure when dealing with physically and verbally abusive and assaultive individuals, respond quickly and reasonably to potentially dangerous and life-threatening situations, assist in calming and de-escalating consumers who may be extremely agitated.  Knowledge of de-escalation techniques are required.  Must have ability to interpret and enforce facility rules and regulations, accept input and guidance from staff unless imminent safety risk requires immediate intervention, communicate information clearly and concisely to consumers, staff and the general public.  Experience with persons with severe and persistent mental illness and/or chemical dependency, and experience working with individuals who are homeless. In addition, the individual must be able to pass a criminal history check and KDADS Child and Adult Abuse Registry check. Must have reliable transportation with auto insurance required. Must have a valid KS driver’s license. This position requires knowledge of basic computer skills. This position requires excellent organizational skills; the ability to be responsible and work independently; the ability to maintain flexibility and dependability in work schedule; positive interpersonal skills; the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.  While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.  Must be able to perform day-to-day physical requirements of the position, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, and sit. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds.  The employee is occasionally required to lift in excess of 50 pounds.

Salary Range

$18.40 – $20.89 – $23.88
